STDs Cases Increase Dramatically Last Year in Arizona
Arizona’s Maricopa and Pinal Counties See Large Increases in STDs During 2017
A new report from azcentral.com reveals that STD cases in two of Arizona’s most populous counties skyrocketed last year.
Maricopa County—including the cities of Phoenix, Tempe, and Scottsdale—has seen a growing number of STD cases for years, increasing 14 percent last year alone. The county reported double digit increases in cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis.
“Our local increase mirrors the nationwide increases. The message we want to get out is the importance of getting tested and treated.”
—Shauna McIsaac, director and chief medical officer of Pinal County’s public health district
According to azcentral.com, experts believe that social networking apps like Tinder and Grindr have played a role in the upward trend.
How Do I Get Tested?
Fortunately, STD testing is simple and affordable. There are dozens of STD testing centers in the Phoenix area.
