You will need to have a small amount of blood drawn. This will be done with sterilized equipment at the laboratory.
When you visit a lab and get tested for Hepatitis C, the testing methodology that we use is called Immunoassay (IA). A small amount of your blood will be drawn to conduct the test. You will not be subject to an uncomfortable swabbing procedure and there is no need for you to remove your clothing.
Avoid urinating for at least one hour before arrival.

When you get tested for Hepatitis C, your test results will indicate whether or not a presence of the disease is detectable in your bloodstream.
There is no need to abstain from eating or drinking before the test.
Hepatitis C cannot be cured but it can be treated. Your body may also heal itself of the infection. If the disease reaches a chronic stage, there is medication available to reduce some of the worst effects of the virus.
You are considered at risk for Hepatitis C if you were born before 1965. You are also considered at risk for Hepatitis C if you received a blood tranfusion or organ transplant before 1993. If you have ever used IV drugs or had unprotected sex, you are also considered at risk for Hepatitis C. Testing is suggested for anybody that falls into one of these risk categories.
When you get tested for Hepatitis C, your lab visit will take 10-15 minutes and then your test results will become available to you two business days later.
