Will I Need A Blood Or Urine Sample?
The HSV-2 test requires a blood sample. Upon arrival at the testing facility, a small amount of blood will be drawn. This test includes no invasive swabs or scraping.
When you visit a lab and get tested for Genital Herpes, the testing methodology that we use is called Immunoassay (IA). A small amount of your blood will be drawn to conduct the test. You will not be subject to an uncomfortable swabbing procedure and there is no need for you to remove your clothing.
Avoid urinating for at least one hour before arrival.

The HSV-2 test requires a blood sample. Upon arrival at the testing facility, a small amount of blood will be drawn. This test includes no invasive swabs or scraping.
Your test for HSV-2 will simply indicate whether or not the disease is detectable by stating positive or negative. If your result says positive, that means that Herpes Type 2 was detected. If your results say negative, you do not have HSV-2.
There is no need to abstain from eating or drinking before the test.
There is no cure for Herpes Type 2. There are treatments available to alleviate outbreaks and other symptoms. Your doctor will be able to prescribe you medication if you receive a positive result for the Herpes simplex virus 2.
Herpes Type 2 is a both highly contagious disease. If you are sexually active, getting a herpes test is highly recommended. It is possible to be carrying the disease without having symptoms.
When you get tested for HSV-2 (genital herpes), you'll spend 10-15 minutes in the lab and then your test results will typically be available in two business days.
