The results will let you know whether or not there are any HIV antibodies in your bloodstream. If there are not, the test will come back with a negative result. This means that you do not have HIV. If the test comes back positive, this means that you are carrying the Human Immunodeficiency Virus.
There is no need to abstain from eating or drinking before the test.
There is no cure for HIV. However, medical research to treat the virus is constantly advancing. There are medications available for HIV carriers that can alleviate your symptoms and extend your life. You can discuss which medications will help you the most with your doctor.
The HIV Antibody test differs from the HIV RNA Early Detection test in that it takes 2-3 weeks after becoming exposed to the virus for it to provide accurate results. If you believe that you have been exposed to HIV and at least 14-21 days have not yet passed, you may want to consider getting the HIV Early Detection test instead.
The HIV Antibody test is considered to be more accurate if it is administered three months after you believe that you may have been exposed to HIV.
