Hepatitis B In The US Population
The CDC has documentation for 2,953 cases of new Hepatitis B infections for 2014. However, they estimate that the actual number of cases is more like 19,200. The estimate for the number of chronic cases in the United States is between 850,000 and 2.2 million. The number of people whose death certificates listed Hepatitis B as a cause of death was 1,843 in 2014.
Infection rates for Hepatitis B peaked in 1985. Since then, treatments
and vaccines have been able to get the infection rates down. Since 2003, the infection has continued to decline, eventually leveling off around the year 2011.
